Top 10 Chase Cards in OP01 Romance Dawn (One Piece TCG)

This Top 10 Chase Cards OP01 list focuses on the cards collectors actually open cases for. OP01 Romance Dawn is the foundation of the One Piece Card Game, and its earliest manga rares, leaders, and alternate arts still set the benchmark for long-term collector demand.

The set combines historical importance with strong character appeal. Many of these cards represent first appearances, first alternate arts, or designs that defined the early identity of the game. Gameplay mattered early on, but collector value now drives demand.

Top 10 Chase Cards in OP01 (Romance Dawn)

1. Shanks (OP01-120) – Manga Rare

The first ever manga rare card in the One Piece TCG and the clear grail of OP01. Shanks carries top-tier character demand, and this card anchors the entire set from a collector perspective. Low pull rates and historic status keep it at the top of want lists. This is the card OP01 is opened for.

2. Monkey D. Luffy (OP01-003) – Leader Alt Art

The first Luffy Leader card in alternate art form. As the main character of the franchise, Luffy cards always carry demand, and this one marks the start of leader alt arts. It combines early-set importance with strong visual appeal. A core chase for long-term collectors.

3. Roronoa Zoro (OP01-001) – Leader Alt Art

The first Zoro Leader card with alternate art. Zoro’s popularity extends well beyond OP01, and this card remained relevant in gameplay for a long time. Collector demand stays strong due to character loyalty and first-of-its-kind status. A consistent high-tier chase.

4. Trafalgar Law (OP01-002) – Leader Alt Art

Law’s first leader appearance in alternate art form. Law has a large and stable collector base, and early leader alt arts remain desirable. This card benefits from being both a franchise favourite and an early design milestone. Demand has stayed steady over time.

5. Nami (OP01-016) – Character Alt Art

The first alternate art Nami card. Nami cards historically perform well with collectors, and this one sits at the start of that trend. It is not a case-defining hit, but demand remains reliable. A strong mid-tier chase that completes many OP01 collections.

6. Donquixote Doflamingo (OP01-060) – Leader Alt Art

The first Doflamingo Leader card in alternate art. This card stayed popular in gameplay far beyond OP01, which helped early demand. Today it benefits from character appeal and leader nostalgia. Often overlooked, but still a solid chase.

7. Kaido (OP01-061) – Leader Alt Art

The first Kaido Leader card with alternate art. Kaido was highly popular in the early meta, which boosted initial demand. Collector interest remains, driven by villain appeal and early-set relevance. Slightly weaker than top tier, but still a meaningful pull.

8. Crocodile (OP01-062) – Leader Alt Art

9. Roronoa Zoro (OP01-025) – Character Alt Art

The first alternate art Zoro character card. The intense red artwork and aggressive pose make it visually distinct. It stands out compared to standard OP01 cards. Collector appeal comes mainly from art and character popularity rather than rarity.

10. Monkey D. Luffy (OP01-024) – Character Alt Art

The first alternate art Luffy character card. It pairs well with the Zoro alt art from the same set and shares a similar full-art style. Demand is lower than leader versions, but it remains relevant for set collectors. A lower-tier chase that still counts.

Honorable Mentions

Cards that narrowly missed the Top 10 include:

Yamato (OP01-121) – Character SEC Alt Art

The other Secret Rare from Romance Dawn, which also has a gorgeous alternate art. Yamato’s parallel is a tough pull and carries significant value. It only missed the Top 10 because, despite being rare, it’s slightly overshadowed by Shanks (the first manga rare) and the Straw Hat leaders in collector preference.

Boa Hancock (OP01-078) – Character Alt Art

A coveted alternate art Super Rare featuring Boa. As a popular character (and a pivotal Warlord), Boa Hancock’s parallel card commanded high prices early on. It’s a fan-favorite card with beautiful art and strong demand, but just shy of the Top 10 due to the even greater relevance of the cards listed above.

(Other parallels like Eustass Kid or King from OP01 are also valuable, but they fall below the chase tier for most investors in this set.)

Is OP01 Romance Dawn worth opening?

OP01 Romance Dawn booster boxes are very expensive now, and the odds of pulling the top chase (Manga Shanks or a specific alt leader) are extremely low. Sealed OP01 is better treated as a collectible itself unless you’re feeling very lucky.

If you’re chasing a specific card for your collection or investment, it’s usually better to buy the single directly. The cost of hunting these chase cards by opening packs is generally far higher than the singles market price for the card, given how rare they are.

How this set compares

Compared to other sets, Romance Dawn (OP01) stands out in terms of collector grails:

More grails than later sets: As the inaugural set, OP01 introduced multiple first-of-their-kind chase cards (many main characters’ first alt arts, plus the first manga rare). Later sets like OP02 Paramount War have their own big hits (e.g. the Manga Ace in OP02) but fewer total grail-level cards in one set.

Strong case hits: Both OP01 and its successor sets feature ultra-rare “case hit” cards, but OP01’s Manga Shanks remains one of the most iconic case hits in the game’s history. The spread of valuable cards in OP01 (several alt art leaders and characters) gives it a depth that makes it particularly appealing to collectors, whereas some other sets concentrate value in one or two marquee cards.
