What are “Special Rare (SP)” Cards?
Special Rare cards (SP rarity) are a class of alternate-art reprint cards introduced in OP-03 Pillars of Strength. These SP cards feature unique artwork and foiling not found on the regular versions, often paying homage to wanted posters or showcasing characters in new styles. Pull rates vary by product, and an SP card is not guaranteed in an individual booster box. Collectors prize SPs for their stunning art: each set from OP-03 onward has its own SP art theme (wanted posters, character portraits, stained-glass mosaics, etc.).
OP14-EB04 includes 11 Special Rare (SP) cards: six with mandala-style backgrounds, three full-scene illustrations, and golden and silver versions of Buggy. The two Buggy finishes share the card number OP09-051, so compare the artwork when choosing your copy.

Conclusion
If you’re hunting a specific SP, buying singles can be more cost-effective than cracking many boxes (with the exception of top chase SPs which can be pricey). Storage: SP cards are full-art foils, so use inner sleeves and top-loaders or graded slabs to prevent scratching the surface. Protecting the condition helps preserve the card’s finish and appeal to other collectors. Lastly, enjoy the artwork! Each Special Rare is a little piece of One Piece art – from Wanted poster characters to vibrant alt scenes – and they make for a stunning display in any collection. Happy collecting!
